Miss Warburton
Welcome to Year 3.
Teacher - Miss Warburton
Teaching Assistants - Mrs Prout (Monday, Tuesday, Friday) & Mrs C-H (Wednesday, Thursday)
Autumn Half Term
This term our topic is 'The World Beneath Our Feet'. This topic will focus on History, Geography and Science. We will be delving into pre-history and learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We will also be exploring different rock types and their properties as well as fossils and how they form, as well as the layers of the earth and how mountains and volcanoes are formed.
Our Literacy work will focus on the book 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. We will be writing some great pieces linked to this including setting descriptions, Kenning poems and our own approaching threat narrative.
We will also be exploring the book 'Stone Girl, Bone Girl' by Laurence Anholt, where we will be learning about Mary Anning and her life and discoveries. We will be using this book, as well as research, to help us write our own biogrphay about Mary Anning.
Further information about our adventures and learning as well as specific news and notices will be shared through School Spider and the newletter.
Key Information
-
Your child will need a pair of indoor school shoes that will be kept in school. Your child will change into these when entering school in the morning and after each outdoor session, ie daily mile and playtimes. On any particular day your child will only need one pair of outdoor shoes that they change from. If it is a reasonably dry day your child’s outdoor footwear could be trainers or boots. If it is a snowy/wet day your child’s outdoor footwear could be wellies. Please just have the outdoor footwear suitable for the weather that particular day. We do not need to have wellies kept in school all of the time because we can’t house so many different items of footwear for each child.
-
PE activities will take place on a Monday and Tuesday. Please can your child have a pump bag with the contents of black shorts/black tracksuit bottoms, white/red t-shirt and black pumps (for indoor) and trainers (for outdoor). This pump bag is to be kept in school. It will be sent home each half term for a refresh!
-
Every other Friday (see calendar), we will continue to have the wonderful opportunity of Forest School. We will aim to go out in all weather (unless torrential rain). Your child will need to bring a bag with the contents of waterproof trousers/waterproof all in one suit, waterproof warm coat and wellies. Your child will bring this bag home on the same day. The dates for Forest School are on the School Spider Calendar.
-
The children have already been given and brought home a reading book and reading diary. Please ensure that your child has their reading book & diary in school on a Thursday so that your child’s book can be changed. Please read regularly at home and record in the diary when you have listened to your child read - regular practice is important to gain confidence, knowledge and speed in reading. Your child’s book will not be changed if a comment has not been recorded in their diary.
